I'm so happy to see Mrs. Helen Mason's Legacy being kept alive. Mrs. Mason ( I could not bring myself to call her by her first name) was my primary introduction to arts and crafts at Eastlake Park. She instilled an appreciation of abstract oil painting, watercolors and other forms of arts and crafts. She taught me how to use an electric sewing machine and I made my first shirt under her tutelage. She also demanded that we as boys respect her and other staff and also respect the girls in the program. Mrs. Helen Mason had a profound influence on me and I am grateful for the time she spent with me.

Thank you!

In my previous comments regarding this remarkable woman and what she taught me and others at Eastlake Park, I neglected to mention what a fabulous dance teacher Mrs. Mason was. She introduced us kids to square dancing and the Hokey Pokey. What great fun.

Thank you!
